The state government of Maharashtra has taken an important decision to curb the spread of COVID-19 in an effective manner, for which a cabinet meeting was planned to decide the plan of imposing a 15-day strict lockdown in the state.

Officials state than an announcement in this regard will be made by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Confirmation regarding the same was given by State Transport Minister Anil Parab during his interaction with the media.

As per reports, the CM, on April 13, 2021, announced a 15-day curfew to break the chain of coronavirus infection in the state, and only essential services were excluded to ensure convenience for the public. However, despite sec 144, the spread of coronavirus has not decreased in the state and  a large number of people are still leaving their homes. Officials have also noted that people are walking on the streets and crowding several areas in the name of essential services. As a result, COVID-19 cases are on a rise and the state is currently running out of beds, oxygen and medicines, which had added a lot of pressure on the health system.

Meanwhile, coronavirus-related death toll has also risen sharply, and the effect of the pressure is being faced by doctors, nurses and health workers who have been working tirelessly to offer treatment.

Sharing more information, Transport Minister, Anil Parab said that if one wants to break the chain of infection, they will have to abide by the rules. Furthermore, in order to control the spread in the state, a strict lockdown of at least 15 days must be decided, otherwise the situation is likely to get out of hand. Similar demands were made by almost all the ministers in the cabinet meeting, basis which CM Uddhav Thackeray is also said to be ready for the complete lockdown.

The ministers have also demanded that the lockdown be announced from 8 pm on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, and keeping the same in mind, the CM has decided to address the state at the earliest to convey the message. It is said that the message will be communicated to the people at around 8 pm, and there is a strong possibility of the district borders being sealed. New guidelines are being prepared to understand the need of  public transport services and decisions are yet to be taken about the Mumbai local trains
