Coronavirus Vaccination: Maharashtra sets record by administering 8 lakh doses in a day

On Monday, August 3, Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that the state has set a record of vaccinating 8 lakh people in a day against COVID-19. He also added that the state can conduct 1.5 million inoculations in 24 hours.

While addressing media, Thackeray, said: "Our effort is to make the vaccines available to the people as soon as possible."

According to the latest data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), over 1.7 million citizens, which comes to nearly 10 per cent of the city’s adult population, have been fully vaccinated as of July 31, 2021. The city’s population is 12.4 million, according to the census of 2011.

Meanwhile, India’s cumulative Vaccination coverage crosses the landmark of 47 crores as of August 1. Of which, 60 lakh vaccine doses were administered in a single day.

However, the state government has decided to relax some of the curbs across Maharashtra except 14 districts including Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Beed, Raigad and Palghar.

Following this, the BMC also announced fresh guidelines which allow all shops to remain open till 10 pm instead of 4 pm on weekdays.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active coronavirus cases in Maharashtra are 82,350, the total number of people who have been recovered are 60,94,896 and 1,32,948 have been succumbed to the disease.
