Massive fire broke out near Kanjurmarg metro car shed in Mumbai

For those unversed, CM Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, on December 16, faced a setback when Bombay High Court placed a stay on the Kanjurmarg Metro Car Shed project. With this order, MMRDA was asked to stop the work on the land.

On Monday, January 31, yet another massive fire broke out in the grassland near Mumbai's Kanjurmarg area.

The incident took place near the Kanjurmarg bus stop where a metro car depot is slated to be built.

As many as four fire tenders reached the spot and doused the flames soon after the incident was reported. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

According to officials, the blaze erupted on the Thane end of the land reserved for the metro carshed and it was confined to 1000 x 1000 square feet of land, adjacent to the Eastern Express Highway. 

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been recorded so far.

Meanwhile, earlier in a similar incident, on Monday afternoon, May 10, fire incident took place in Aarey Colony outside the Line 3 Metro car shed. Due to the fire, several trees were damaged.

Since the Kanjurmarg plot is undergoing litigation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked Metro officials to consider the option of establishing a car depot for the Metro 3 underground corridor (Colaba - Bandra - Seepz) and Metro 6 (Vikhroli - Lokhandwala) at Goregaon Pahadi.
