MMR records 85% of the total COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra

As the COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Mumbai, the infection rate in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has also started showing a rising trend. Meanwhile, reports stated that Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mira Road reported almost 50 per cent more cases.

As the COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Mumbai, the infection rate in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has also started showing a rising trend.

With the MMR alone reporting 4,566 cases, the tally of the state also went up to 5,368 cases. However, the MMR, which also include the ones from Mumbai, recorded 85 per cent of the total cases in the state.

Meanwhile, reports stated that Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mira Road reported almost 50 per cent more cases than usual.

Navi Mumbai reported 280 daily cases, the most number in MMR, followed by 263 in Thane city. While Mira Bhayandar reported 107 cases, Panvel saw 73 cases, Vasai-Virar reported 100 cases, Raigad recorded 46 cases and Kalyan-Dombivli reported 73 cases. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three deaths, two from Vasai Virar and one from Mira Bhayandar.

On Thursday, December 30, the city registered 3,671 cases, 46 per cent more compared to Wednesday, December 29. However, there wasn’t any death due to the virus in Mumbai. It is the seventh time in December when zero deaths were registered in the city.

Apart from this, Pune city registered 307 cases. The state’s case-fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 1,193 recovered and got discharged on Tuesday. Currently, the state has 18,217 active cases.
