More than 5 lakh Shiv Bhojan Thalis distributed in Mumbai-Thane areas in May

The MVA government launched Shiv Bhojan Thali, an ambitious scheme, under the guidance of Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection. The scheme was launched on January 26, 2020 in the state.

According to reports, a total of 5,23,133 Shiv Bhojan thalis have been distributed to the poor and needy through 83 Shiv Bhojan Kendras in the area of Mumbai and Thane in the month of May, this year.

In the wake of coronavirus,19,900 free plates per day have been sanctioned for the Mumbai-Thane region. Under 'Break the Chain' campaign, Shiv Bhojan Parcel (Take Away) facility has been made available to the customers from April 6, 2021. As the government has extended lockdown till June 15, this scheme will be available till June 14 between 11 am to 4 pm.

From April 15 to May 20, a total of 48,44,709 citizens have availed the benefit of free Shiv Bhojan Thali. In this difficult time, the free food scheme by the Uddhav Thackeray-led government has brought relief to the poor of the state.

The poor and needy are being appealed to follow the social distance and avail free Shiv Bhojan thali using masks without rushing from the centres available in their department, appealed Kailash Pagare, Controller of Ration and Director, Kailas Pagare in a press release.

The government had decided in March 2020 to provide meals to consumers at just INR 5 so that the poor, farmers, labourers, homeless and students in the state would not go hungry during the outbreak of the coronavirus. This concessional rate was applicable till March 2021.

However, the pandemic has not been controlled yet again the state government has imposed strict restrictions in the state, it has decided to give the meals for free.
