In response to an RTI, it was revealed that the highest number of deaths on railway tracks happened at Thane, Mankhurd, and Borivali railway stations. The RTI application was filed by Sameer Zaveri who informed that the female passengers have died more as compared to the previous year.

According to the RTI, almost 1,933 people died in the year 2018 while the number in the year 2017 was 1,928. However, the number of deaths on Western Railway has decreased from being 1,086 in 2017 to 1,048 deaths in 2018.

A railway employee, Zaveri, said that the major reason for these deaths is crowded Mumbai local trains. Zaveri further added that there is need to start more 15-coaches trains. Earlier in 2017, the total number of deaths on the suburban railway tracks was 3,014. However, the number has fallen to 2,981 in the year 2018.
