Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Poonam Mahajan wrote to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanding a high-level inquiry in connection with the MTNL building fire incident in which nearly 80 staff members were trapped.

In the letter, Mahajan informed that during the detailed inquiry it was discovered that the MTNL office building did not have fire fighting equipment including fire alarms and there were no emergency announcements. Moreover, the fire extinguishers available were not enough to get the situation under control.

The office is located in a crowded vicinity of Bandra and (such incidents) could prove to be a grave danger to citizens residing nearby. Hence, I request you to look into this matter personally and order a high-level inquiry to find the actual cause of the incident,” BJP MP Poonam Mahajan asserted in the letter.
