It was a bizarre flight experience for passengers of the AirAsia flight I5316. The flight flew out from the NSCBI Airport at 9.57 p.m. on Saturday towards its destination Mumbai. However, the pilot had to turn back mid-air after an inebriated passenger, Mohini Mondal, allegedly passed on a chit to the flight captain through a cabin crew that she was a "human bomb and could blow off any time."

Mohini Mondal is a 25-year-old woman passenger and as per the officials the reason why she made such a claim was because she was under the influence of alcohol.

Post her claim, an emergency alert was announced at the NSCBI airport at 11 p.m. after the pilot told the air traffic controller (ATC) of the bomb threat which had forced to him to take a u-turn.

As soon as the aircraft landed in Kolkata, Mondal was arrested and taken into custody by the the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards the airport. The official revealed that there was no bomb or explosive found from her or the plane.

A thorough inspection of the plane was carried out by security personnel and bomb experts.

Earlier in the day, a suicide was reported near the Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

Reports state that Abhishay Babu, a junior intelligence officer at the CSIA allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a building. Police identified him and mentioned that the body was found in the parking area (level 4) of the airport.
