In an official statement, the Mumbai Police has announced to prohibit all procession on the occasion of the Eid-e-Milad owing to the ongoing pandemic for 2 days. However, the city has made an exception for one procession in Mumbai City district and another in Mumbai Suburban district, said the office of the commissioner of police, Greater Mumbai.

Explaining further, the official said that that the two regions where the ban will not be applicable, only a total of five trucks carrying a maximum of five people on each vehicle will be permitted.

"All processions on Eid-e-Milad prohibited, except one procession in Mumbai City district and one in Mumbai Suburban district of 5 trucks per procession with a max of 5 persons on each truck, with the prior permission of the police. No other processions other than Eid-e-Milad will be allowed," stated the release.

However, the statement clarified that a prior permission of police will be required and adherence to COVID-19 protocols, such as wearing of masks, using hand sanitisers and maintaining physical distance are mandatory.

It added, "Order will remain in effect from 12:01 am on October 19, 2021 to 11 pm on October 20, 2021, unless withdrawn earlier."

Milad-un-Nabi is commemorated in Rabi'al-awwal, the third month in the religious calendar. On this day, Muslims all across the world celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
