On Thursday, July 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the western and central parts of India will continue to witness heavy rainfall over the next three-four days.

This comes amidst the heavy downpour across Mumbai. Moreover, the IMD has issued a red alert for the city whereas the meteorological body issued an orange alert for Maharashtra's East Vidarbha region, which includes districts such as Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

According to reports, the island city has recorded 1971.3 mm of rainfall so far. It requires 29 mm of rain for the rainfall to reach 2000 mm for this season. Mumbai is already excess by 890 mm. Mumbai rains are nearly catering for the rest of the two months as well.

Furthermore, with the continual downpour in Mumbai, monsoon-related diseases have reportedly increased by 50 per cent in the city. In view of the situation, doctors have warned the people living across the island city against self-medication as it can delay diagnosis amongst patients who are suffering from the coronavirus.

According to data shared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), till July 18, 240 cases of malaria, 17 cases of leptospirosis, 10 and 13 swine flu cases have been reported in the city.
