Mumbai Rains Update: Over 100mm rainfall recorded within 24 hours for 3rd time

Amid heavy rains observed in Mumbai, the city recorded over 100 mm of rainfall within 24 hours for the third time in the past week.

The Santacruz observatory recorded 101 mm of rain between Sunday and Monday till 8.30 am. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory recorded 45 mm of showers.

With the city receiving incessant rains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Mumbai as well as its neighboring districts of Thane, Raigad, Palghar among others, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of the city for next few days.

After recording heavy rain until the wee hours of Monday, July 24, the city experienced subdued showers throughout the day. The weather station in Santacruz recorded 23 mm of rain whereas the Colaba observatory registered 3.6 mm of downpour.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) recording apparatus showed that on Monday till 6 pm, the maximum showers were recorded in the western suburbs at 24 mm followed by the eastern suburbs which witnessed 21.53 mm of rain. The island city division received 7.29 mm of downpour.

Besides, the lake levels have also witnessed a significant surge. Until Monday morning, July 24, the water stock in the seven lakes which supply water to the megapolis collectively stood at 52.84 per cent.
