Mumbai will soon get a direct metro line connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Andheri with the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Metro Line 8, also known as the Gold Line, will be about 35 to 40 kilometres long. The project is expected to be completed by 2029.

The metro will have 9.25 kilometres of underground and 25.63 kilometres of elevated routes. The route will start at Terminal 2 of CSMIA in Andheri. It will go underground till Chhedanagar in Chembur. After that, it will continue as an elevated metro up to NMIA.

The line will run at a top speed of 90 kilometres per hour. This makes it faster than other metro lines in the city. There will be eight stations along the route. Some important stops include Kurla, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mankhurd, Vashi, Nerul, and Belapur.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will manage the work on the Navi Mumbai side. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will take care of the Mumbai side.

This metro line will also make travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai easier. It will also help passengers move between the two major airports without any road travel.

Metro Line 8 will link with other metro lines too. Metro Line 7A connects Andheri East to CSMIA. It has an underground station at Terminal 2 and an elevated station at Airport Colony.

Line 7 also connects with Metro Line 1 (Blue Line), Metro Line 6 (Pink Line) and Metro Line 9. Line 9 runs from Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander and connects with Line 7 at Dahisar. Line 9 will also have future links to Andheri West through Line 2B and Ghatkopar through Lines 7 and 1.

CIDCO also plans to extend Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1A and add 3.02 kilometres from Belapur to NMIA. It will connect with Metro Line 8 at the Sagar Sangam Interchange, near the NMMC offices.
