Navi Mumbai’s civic body, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is reportedly facing the issue of encroachments. This has severely hampered the construction and planning of the city.

NNMC Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar speaking to the media about the same has stated that stern action will be taken against the mafia-minded encroachers. Moreover, if anyone refuses to follow instructions, the concerned officers or employees will face consequences.

According to sources, a meeting was held which was attended by Additional Commissioner Sanjay Kakade, Deputy Commissioner of Encroachment Amrish Patnigire as well as Engineers of Encroachment Department of all departments and Assistant Commissioners and Divisional Officers of all departments through web communication.

The Commissioner directed the Encroachment Department to intensify the action against the unauthorized constructions. While reviewing the anti-encroachment action from January to June, the commissioner reviewed the notices issued to all the ongoing constructions.

Expressing displeasure over the number of unauthorized constructions and notices issued by the department offices, the commissioner directed the department officials to re-examine the matter and pay regular attention to it. The commissioner also directed to pay close attention to ensure that construction is not resumed once notice is given or action is taken.

On the other hand, the NMMC had earlier issued notices to 26 arrears for confiscation of property. According to sources, these arrears have to pay a tax of INR 5 crores. If the amount is not collected within 21 days of the notice being served, their property will be sold at auction.
