Hemant Nagrale, Mumbai Police Commissioner, stated that the department does not have any intel about any terrorist attack by Khalistanis in Mumbai, adding that it was just a "rumour", reported the Hindustan Times. This comment by Nagrale comes in the aftermath of reports claiming that Mumbai police had tightened security at railway stations and public places.
According to narratives, Mumbai Police have stated that they will be on alert and will keep a strict eye throughout the city on Friday, December 31, considering the rise in COVID-19 cases. On Thursday, December 30, Mumbai reported over 3,600 new cases however, zero fatalities were registered.
Apart from this, even the Government Railway Police (GRP) have amped security at major railway stations, in addition to taking anti-sabotage measures.

Amid the threat of the new variant of coronavirus, Omicron, Mumbai Police has prohibited New Year gathering and celebrations in closed and open spaces that include hotels and restaurants. Moreover, on Wednesday, December 29, orders were issued that brought in force, CrPC Section 144 in Mumbai from December 30 to January 7.
