A day after announcing to resume physical classes for schools and junior college, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday, January 21, said that it is planning to allow the reopening of gardens and parks in the city.

This development came after the city witnesses a decline in the daily COVID-19 cases.

Owing to this, the BMC officials said that they are expecting a fresh state government order in the next few days on further relaxation in curbs imposed in the city.

The civic official stated that there might be some more relaxation in the curbs like reopening of gardens, parks, tourist places with limited hours. The announcement will be made only after a decision taken by the disaster management authority. In addition, the timings of restaurants, hotels may also be relaxed.

On Thursday, January 20, Mumbai recorded 5,708 COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths.

As the coronavirus cases saw an exponential spike in the first week of January, the Maharashtra government on January 8 had announced several restrictions, including curbs on public movement from 11 pm to 5 am, closure of theme parks, open spaces, tourist spots and so on.

Earlier, on January 19, the BMC told the Bombay High Court (HC) that the COVID-19 condition in Mumbai as well as its surrounding areas is under control since the daily count of new coronavirus cases has decreased from nearly 20,000 10 days ago to 6,000-7,000 on Tuesday.
