Online Lottery Conducted for RTE Admissions in Mumbai

According to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, underprivileged children were given admission in various schools as per the respective norms. This year, just like the previous year, the proceedings have been done online. On April 5th, 2023, the online lottery for RTE 25 percent admission process of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for the commercial year 2022-24 was conducted at Maharashtra State Institute of Educational Research, Pune.

List of Selected Candidates Released Online

The names of the children who got a place under RTE in this lottery can be seen on https://student.maharashtra.gov.in or http://education.maharashtra.gov.in after 3 pm on April 2nd, 2023. Moreover, SMS will also be sent to the parents of the waitlisted children.

Admission Procedure

The admission of the students of the first list will be done from April 13th to April 25th. However, parents should approach the Verification Committee and the school for admission of their child to confirm their child's admission to the school. A total of 18,204 valid applications were received from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area during the draw. The previous year's number was 15,050. There are 6,589 seats available in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation under RTE.

Verification and Confirmation of Admission

Parents can download the pinout RTE document of the child selected in the lottery from the respective website. Then take this original and Xerox copy and be present at the regional center for verification. After checking the papers, the admission of the students will be confirmed.

About RTE

Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act  is a law enacted by the Indian government in 2009. The act provides for free and compulsory education for children between the ages of 6 and 14 years in India. Under the RTE, private schools in India are required to reserve 25% of their seats for children from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, and provide them with free education, including textbooks, uniforms, and mid-day meals. The RTE aims to ensure that all children, irrespective of their social and economic background, have access to education and can attend school.
