Petrol just 6 paise short of INR 100-a-litre mark in Mumbai; crosses INR 100-mark in Thane and Navi Mumbai

The price of petrol in the financial hub, Mumbai, was up by 23 paise and diesel by around 30 paise from the previous day. The 14th increase in prices since May 4 has pushed petrol and diesel prices to record-high levels across the country.

With another hike in fuel rates on Thursday, May 27, the petrol prices in Thane and Navi Mumbai have crossed the INR 100-mark. It is retailing at INR 100.06 per litre and diesel price is also at a record high of INR 91.99 per litre.

While, in Mumbai, the petrol price is just six paise from touching INR 100 per litre mark. 

The price of petrol in the financial hub was up by 23 paise and diesel by around 30 paise from the previous day. With this, a litre of petrol in Mumbai will not cost INR 99.94 and diesel will be sold at a new high price of INR 91.87 per litre.

Besides, the highest price of petrol was in Parbhani where it was retailing at Rs 102.30 per litre on Tuesday, May 24 in Maharashtra. The highest diesel rate across the state is INR 93.34 in the Amravati district.

Apart from this, in several cities in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh the rates had already crossed the INR 100-mark.

The 14th increase in prices since May 4 has pushed petrol and diesel prices to record-high levels across the country.

Moreover, reports suggest that Rajasthan levies the highest value-added tax (VAT) on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Activists have demanded that both Centre and state should roll back excise duty and VAT to some extent in order to give relief to consumers and bring down prices.
