A few hours away from the plastic ban, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to slap a fine of ₹5,000 on the use of thermocol and plastic bags. However, many people are still confused about the ban and whether it will be applicable in houses. The civic body cleared that the ban will only be applicable in public places, malls, and shops.

First-time offenders will have to pay fine of ₹5,000, second-time offenders will be charged ₹10,000 and the third-time offender will be charged ₹25,000.
In order to get rid of the plastic use, the BMC has placed bins to collect plastic waste. Along with this, societies can contact BMC’s toll-free number i.e. 1800222357 and the latter will send the vehicle to collect waste.
