Mumbai residents woke up to heavy rain, with many areas in the city experiencing continuous downpour on Friday morning, July 25.
Amid this, the Mumbai Police have advised residents in the city and nearby districts to stay indoors and avoid coastal areas due to the heavy rainfall in the city.
Moreover, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane, warning of more intense showers ahead. Palghar has been placed under a yellow alert, indicating moderate weather activity, yet care is still to be exercised.
The weather department has also issued a red alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri, predicting “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in a few places and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places on Friday.
Since the last 24 hours, Mumbai has received immense spells of showers at isolated places with 08 mm of rainfall from 08:00 am on Thursday, July 24, to 8:00 am on Friday, July 25.
As per BMC, the cumulative rainfall from June 1 to July 25 stands at 1957.2 mm for Colaba and 1916.3 mm for Santacruz. Compared to the annual average rainfall—2398.4 mm for Colaba and 2352.9 mm for Santacruz—this accounts for 81.64 per cent and 81.45 per cent of the season’s quota.
Besides, a red alert has also been maintained for the ghat regions of Satara and Pune as well.
The red alert implies a "take action" warning, while orange and yellow alerts suggest "be prepared to take action" and "be aware" warnings, respectively. An orange alert signifies "be prepared," while a yellow alert means "be aware. "
