While the work of concreting the Mumbai-Goa highway is underway, Minister of Public Works Department Ravindra Chavan took a monsoon tour on Friday and learned about the problem of stones on the highway. Minister Chavan arrived at the government rest house in Panvel at 7:32 in the morning on Friday. At this time, BJP's Prashant Thakur from Panvel and officials of Public Works Department and National Highways Authority were present. Minister Chavan's tour started at 7:56 am. Minister Chavan's convoy went through the water running on the road at Palaspe Phata in Panvel. For the past four years, rainwater has been accumulating in Palaspe Phata on the road.

The government has widened the roads and asphalted them, but they have not yet been able to construct sewers to carry the rainwater. The road at Palaspe Phata falls under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. Officials in this department say that there is a plan to build a sewer along the highway, but due to a dispute over the land, the sewer could not be constructed. The Mumbai Goa highway begins with rocks. There are a large number of potholes near the bridge at Palaspe Phata.

“This tour has been organised to improve at least one route on Mumbai Goa highway before Ganeshotsav. One route of 42 km highway will be started. At present, 12 out of 42 km of highway has been completed. There are problems due to the monsoon. However, the officials and contractors are preparing for the construction of the highway by putting up shelters”, said Ravindra Chavan, Public Works Minister
