In the midst of the political crisis in Maharashtra, on Saturday, June 25, the Mumbai Police imposed Section 144 in the city, till July 10, reports stated.

Prior to this, the Thane District Administration had already imposed Sec 144 CrPC in their district in addition to issuing an order banning any sort of political procession till June 30.

It is pertinent to note that Thane is the stronghold of rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde. The said leader has been camping in Assam with other rebel MLAs.

According to reports, in an order issued by the Thane District Collector and District Magistrate, carrying sticks or any sort of arms, burning posters or effigy have been banned. Moreover, shouting slogans, and playing songs on speakers are also not permitted.

Based on accounts, earlier, the Mumbai Police had issued a high alert and asked all police stations to see to it that security is present at all political offices in Mumbai. Moreover, officer-level police personnel have been directed to visit every political office to ensure safety.

Amidst this, Shinde wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil over the alleged withdrawal of security of the family members of the 38 MLAs with him in Guwahati, as an act of revenge. However, Patil has refuted these claims and cited them as false and completely baseless.
