Six workers die as lift at an under-construction building crashes down in Worli

The incident was reported at Worli's Ambika Building on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Information released on Sunday confirmed that all six workers injured due to the incident passed away.

In a shocking incident, lift in an under-construction building in Mumbai's Worli area collapsed on Saturday, July 24, 2021. As per reports released by the rescue team, a total of six people have died so far. 

The information regarding the incident was received by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) disaster management cell at approximately 5.45 pm on Saturday. Officials rushed to the spot at Worli's Hanuman Gully, where people present at the location mentioned that the lift came crashing down from the nine floor of the Ambika Building.

The injured were taken to KEM and Nair hospital for treatment. Dr Yusuf and Dr Nair from the respective hospitals informed that their condition was critical on Saturday. However, the update released on Sunday mentioned that all the six workers passed away due to complications. 

They have been identified as Abhay Mistry Yadav, Anilkumar Nandlal Yadav, Avinash Das, Bharat Anand Mandal, Chinmay Anand Mandal and Laxman Mandal.

Senior Inspector Pratap Bhosale from the NM Joshi police station registered an accidental death report and mentioned that the team was working towards finding out the cause and the culprits behind the incident. As per the current investigation, Mumbai Police has arrested the project supervisor and contractor for allegedly flouting norms by not providing safety equipment to the workers. Officials have registered a case under culpable homicide not amounting to murder and various sections.

Residents mentioned that overloading the lift could have led to the mishap. 

The MLA from Worli and Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray visited the location and interacted with the officials about the rescue operation.
