Popular Abhyas Galli and Jambori Maidan in Worli to get new facilities

As per reports, BMC has sanctioned both the projects. Funds have been allocated by Worli MLA, Aaditya Thackeray and CM Uddhav Thackeray for the revamp of the maidan.

Worli's popular Abhyas Galli and Jambori maidan will soon be renovated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Officials have informed that the civic body has been planning seating arrangements similar to a classroom at Abhyas Galli which will help students to study in a better manner. 

Authorities have noted that many students, living in small houses in the slums of Worli, often study under the trees in this street, and to boost their motive and interest, the southern division of the municipal corporation has decided to transform this street popular for its purpose. In order to maintain this identity of the road, sidewalks on both sides of the road will be provided with facilities like benches, lights, drinking water, toilets, etc. similar to that of schools or colleges.

The cost of both these works is expected to be INR 2 crore. Experts have informed that the road is 12 meters wide and 300 meters long and there are three-meter long sidewalks on both sides of the road, which will provide a conducive environment for students to study. The work on the roads will be undertaken by the concerned department and the beautification of sidewalks will be done by the department office. A special space will be created for students to read on the sidewalk. 

Moreover, the walls on both sides of the road will also be decorated with pictures related to education. With an aim to offer more, barcodes of books will also be painted on the walls, using which students will be able to read the books on their mobile phones or other devices by scanning these barcodes.

Meanwhile, the look of the Jambori maidan in the middle of the BDD chawl will also be changed in the near future. Officials have confirmed that a jogging track will be constructed in this ground which is said to the over 10,000 square meters in size. The red soil identity of this ground will also be maintained. To make it even better, a drainage system is being planned underground which will absorb rainwater. Besides this,  seating facility for senior citizens, play area for children, and additional amenities are also being considered.

A report about the maidan revamp, published in the Times of India, said that a sum of INR 75 lakh (each) has been given by the MLA from Worli, Aaditya Thackeray and Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray. The ground has not been revamped for many years and this move has been appreciated by residents and a visitors of all age groups, who use the maidan for several recreational activities. It is said that Rachana Sansad College has collaborated with the BMC to design the ground in this proposed project. Information regarding this was shared by Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the respective ward, Sharad Ughade, who added that facilities like rainwater harvesting system, horticulture, new lights, ornamental gate, walking area, gym equipment installation and a new fence is also being planned as a part of the redevelopment plan.
