It seems Mumbaikars will have to give up on tea post-July 16, 2018, as milk will not be available at any milk centres. Farmers who work in the dairy sector have blamed the government for not implementing the order that states that milk producers can sell milk ₹27 per litre.

Considering the losses, farmers have decided to protest which will be led by Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader and Swabhimani Paksha MP Raju Shetti.

Post-July 16, we will stop milk supply to Mumbai. Milk comes from three different routes, Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Nagar-Nashik route and Pune-Mumbai. We will protest on all these said routes and will stop milk supply to Mumbai. And we will continue this protest unless and until the state government does not credit ₹5 daily as a subsidy to farmers until the crisis is over,” Raju Shetti, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader.

Another route from where Mumbai receives its milk supply is Gujarat-Karnataka road. But, there is a possibility that Shetti and his team will protest on this route as well.

As per Shetti, on a daily basis, one crore litre milk is produced across the state. One litre milk costs ₹35 but the farmers receive only ₹17. Due to this, farmers are witnessing losses. Hence, they want the state to credit ₹5 daily in their bank accounts to help them get over the spate of low procurement prices.
