The temperature in the city continues to rise this week as there is a transition between the monsoon and the winter seasons. Reportedly, on Thursday, October 7, the temperature touched 35.8 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in Mumbai is above normal for the last five consecutive days. It was reported that on Wednesday, October 6, the daytime temperature in Mumbai was 35.1 degrees Celsius, breaking last year's record for October month. On Tuesday, October 5, the maximum temperature touched 34.5 degrees.

Reasoning why Mumbai is experiencing a rise in Mercury, a meteorologist with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that since the monsoon is withdrawing, the cloud cover is becoming thinner. As a result, there is more penetration of sunlight, due to which the city is witnessing high temperature.

For at least the next week, the maximum temperature in Mumbai is likely to remain 35 and 36 degrees Celsius, as per the IMD's forecast. In October 2020, on the 10th, 28th, and 29th, Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees.

The highest temperature recorded in October was 38.6 degrees in 2015. Earlier an official had stated that it is unlikely that the withdrawal of rains would take place in the city before October 15.
