Nearly a month after a tea vendor in the vicinity of ‘Matoshree’ was tested COVID-19 positive, 3 constables deployed outside the private residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray have been tested positive for the coronavirus.

The three constables who tested positive for COVID-19 have been quarantined in Santacruz. This was discovered after two of the three policemen went home on Friday morning after completing the night shift while another resumed duty in the morning.

On April 6, Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence - Matoshree - in Bandra was sealed after tea vendor in the locality was tested positive for the coronavirus or COVID-19. In an effort to stop the spread of the infection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had also sprayed disinfectants in the area.

Moreover, over 130 security staff deployed at Matoshree were quarantined as a precautionary measure as some of the bodyguards used to have their daily tea at the same vendor who was tested positive.

Earlier, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had said that police personnel stationed at Matoshree will be tested for the coronavirus infection. The police personnel who are discharging their duties on the field are prone to contracting the coronavirus.

For this, the Maharastra government has announced a special corona cell for the police. Deshmukh informed that there will be two different nodal officers for Mumbai and for the rest of Maharashtra. Joint Commissioner Naval Bajaj will look after Mumbai where two hospitals will be reserved for the police where only they will be treated.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the increasing cases across the country, the Union Home Ministry on Friday extended the lockdown for two more weeks from May 4. The guidelines issued by the MHA stated that restrictions will be lifted in accordance with the zones - red, orange and green - identified across the country.
