On Tuesday, Mayor Kishori Pednekar stated that the third wave was already here and urged people to celebrate the upcoming festivities at home.

However, according to the report by the Times of India, Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of the state task force stated that the trend needs to be studied for two more weeks before drawing conclusions. Suresh Kakani, the BMC Additional Commissioner stated that we need to be vigilant for a fortnight till after Ganesh Chaturthi ends.

Whilst on Tuesday, for the second consecutive day, the number of cases in Mumbai fell and stood at 353, the weekly graph depicts an increase. According to reports, the total cases in the first seven days of September is 2,918 which is a third of the total tally in August of 9,048.

On most days, the number of deaths reported has been under five, but the deaths reported between September 1 and 7 have been a third of the August tally which was 78, indicated accounts.

Contrasting this to the state’s numbers, its weekly case number is 28,882 which is 18.6% of last month’s aggregate of 1.5 lakh cases. Under 4,000 cases were reported for the second consecutive day in Maharashtra, in addition to which the death toll has been below 100 since the past six days of the above mentioned time frame.

3898 cases and 86 deaths were accounted in Maharashtra on Tuesday, surging the total tally of cases to 64.9 lakh and deaths to 1,37,897. Similarly, the island city’s case numbers increased to 7.5 lakh with deaths to 16,000 on the same day. However, a sense of respite can be acclaimed as the active cases in both the city as well as the state declined in the mentioned period.
