After over 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred in the terrorist attacks at Kashmir’s Pulwama, there has been a wave of anger and despise. Accordingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to write a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) asking them to consider the situation and also sever ties with nations backing terrorism.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai said,

We are in talks with the government. No decision has been taken on the June 16 match. We are expressing two concerns to the ICC. We will ask for more protection for players during the tournament. We will tell cricketing nations to sever ties with any nation from where terrorism emanates.”

On Friday, the CoA members had held a meeting to take a call on how to deal with the India-Pakistan World Cup match that will be played in Manchester on June 16. While several players and countrymen have asked the cricketing body to boycott the match, but players like Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar intend to defeat Pakistan in the match and pay tribute to the soldiers.

Meanwhile, BCCI has put the ball in the government’s court as they have said that the Indian government’s decision will be final and they will decide whether to play the match against Pakistan or not. Prior to this, ICC CEO Dave Richardson had stated that the governing body has no reasons to make any changes to the proposed World Cup schedule and that all matches will be played as planned.
