Sandeep Patil, the former selection panel chief has been displeased by the team management’s decision to drop players from the national team on the basis of YoYo test after announcing the squad already. Making his point clear, the former cricketer said that this blunder can cost the player his career and along with it, destabilise the balance of the team.

Earlier, in-form batsman Ambati Rayudu and pacer Mohammed Shami were dropped from the squad for the England tour after they failed to clear the 16.1 score essential for selection. The team’s twelfth-hour changes have certainly displeased the former selector, who was succeeded by MSK Prasad in 2016.

Patil mocked the selection process saying that the trainer looks to have become the selector since the trainer rates the player’s performance. He said that no player can always be fit and there are times when it is vital to take chances rather than dropping the player.

He strongly emphasised that every player deserves a second chance. He pointed out that Mohammed Shami has a lot of personal problems ongoing in his life and the selectors need to develop a more sensitive approach towards him for his selection.
