On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the 12-man squad for the inaugural T20I against Australia in Brisbane. Accordingly, Manish Pandey and Washington Sundar are the absentees from the team that played the last match against West Indies in Chennai. Meanwhile, the regular Indian captain Virat Kohli will be making a comeback after a break during the three-game T20I against the Windies.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma will resume his duties as the vice-captain after a 3-0 T20I win against West Indies whereas Rishabh Pant has been named wicketkeeper ahead of Dinesh Karthik, who has also been named in the 12-member squad.

Currently, India are ranked second in the ICC T20 rankings whereas Australia are ranked third. However, the major drawback for Australia is the exclusion of top two players, Steve Smith and David Warner, who have been banned in regard to the ball-tampering incident during a Test match against South Africa in March 2018.
