Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets in IPL 2021 on Tuesday, April 20. In today’s match, MI struggled to score big and could hardly manage to set a target of less than 150 for DC.

Delhi Capitals brought an end to a five-match winless streak against Mumbai Indians. DC had not beaten MI even once in four meetings last season but ensured the winless streak was broken in their very first meeting this year.

DC has now won three out of their first four games this season and are placed at the second spot with 6 points from 4 games.

Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Though, it was a quick-fire start from Suryakumar Yadav and the skipper himself. However, due to the brilliant performance of spinner Amit Mishra, the star batsman of the home team failed to make a big performance at the Chennai ground.

Rohit Sharma scored the most runs (44) in this match. However, the other Mumbai batsmen failed to make a big impact against the Delhi bowlers. Mumbai scored 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Amit Mishra took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock started Mumbai's innings. In the third over, Delhi bowler Marcus Stoinis dismissed Quinton de Kock to give Mumbai the lead.

De Kock scored 2 runs. After that, Rohit took Suryakumar by the hand and scored 55 for 1 in the first powerplay for Mumbai. After a half-century partnership between the two, Awesh Khan gave Delhi the lead. Mumbai lost Suryakumar in good form in the seventh over. Suryakumar scored 24 runs. After that, Rohit, who was on his way to a half-century, was caught by Amit Mishra. Rohit Smith was caught in the middle of playing a big shot. He scored 44 runs with 3 sixes and 3 fours.

After Rohit's dismissal, Mumbai's innings collapsed. Mishra dismissed Hardik Pandya for zero. After Hardik, Krunal Pandya was also removed cheaply on 2. He was dismissed by Lalit Yadav. Unexpectedly, Mishra struck Kieran Pollard (2) in his googly. After this fall, Ishaan Kishan and Jayant Yadav formed a small partnership. Kishan scored 26 and Yadav 23 runs. Apart from Mishra, Awesh Khan took two wickets for 15 runs.

DC’s chase started on a wrong note with Prithvi Shaw tamely chipping a return catch to Jayant Yadav in the second over. MI nearly got Shikhar Dhawan out in the first over, with Hardik Pandya claiming a low catch. However, replays show he had grassed it. The absence of a soft signal in the IPL worked in favour of the batsman.

But, DC had the perfect batsman to soak in the pressure and put up a steady partnership for chasing such low totals – Steve Smith. Smith joined Shikhar Dhawan, the orange cap holder, as the duo took DC to 39 for 1 in the Power Play. Despite some nervy moments, in the end, Shimron Hetymar and Lalit Yadav sealed a six-wicket win for Delhi Capitals over MI.
