The Royals won the match with seven wickets to spare with the help of Jos Buttler's gracious 94 off 53. Chasing 169, the Royals lost their first wicket early in the first over.

Despite the shaky start, skipper Rahane and Jos Buttler batted confidently and stitched a 95-run partnership. The duo was leading the Royals to victory as they were cruising at 83-1 at the end of 10 overs. Jos Buttler continued his run-rich form and scored his fifth consecutive half-century of the season.

Indians posted a respectable total of 168 after a cameo by Hardik Pandya who scored 36 off 21, leading his team to the total. Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes were the top bowlers for Royals and put up a significant bowling show by restricting the Indians from scoring runs and scalping two wickets each.

With this defeat, Mumbai Indians possibly will be ruled out of the race to the playoffs.
