After missing the Test series against West Indies, Indian pacer Shardul Thakur will now miss the upcoming Test tour against Australia. The Mumbai-based bowler had limped off after bowling just 10 deliveries on his Test debut and now has been asked to take a seven-week long rest before resuming.  Accordingly, it is possible that due to the rest period, Thakur may be out of contention for a place in the Test squad against Australia.

Earlier, Thakur had suffered a right adductor tendon injury during the second Test match against West Indies and later, was unavailable for the upcoming matches. Eventually, Thakur was replaced by Umesh Yadav for the ODI series against the Caribbean.

Even if I try hard, I won’t be able to get fit before the second Test in Australia. A place in the T20s (which precede the Tests) or the Tests will be difficult. I will be eyeing the one-dayers instead. Let’s see how my rehab goes. I will continue with my training for the next seven weeks,” Thakur said.

Prior to the injury during the Test series, Thakur had suffered from a hip injury during the Asia Cup match against Hong Kong. However, he stated that the injury during Asia Cup was different from the one during the Test match. He further explained that during the match against Hong Kong, he only felt sore pain in his hip whereas, during the Test match, he felt a muscle tear and thus, he left the field immediately.

Meanwhile, Thakur intends to follow the precautions and get back to grounds once he is fit to play. He implied that initially, he will some local games and later, make his comeback towards the national side.
