For the last few days, the term YoYo test has been discussed on several occasions. The fitness test has become mandatory for Indian cricketers to play limited overs cricket. The YoYo test has become a topic for debate and has also been a source of heartbreak for several players as well as fans. Last year, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Washington Sundar had failed the test and now Ambati Rayudu was dropped from the squad after failing to clear the ’16.1’ score.

Along with Rayudu being dropped, Sanju Samson was also removed from the India ‘A’ squad for England tour after failing to clear the fitness test. Former India batsman and chief selector, Sandeep Patil said that fitness is an inevitable factor which cannot be ignored but he also asked for some leniency towards the players.

Patil said that if a player gets two innings to prove himself in Test matches, similarly he must get two chances for Yo-Yo test. He further explained that if a player cannot clear the test, he should be given the opportunity again after a few hours or the next day. He described that Ambati Rayudu may not have been ready for some reason and it is his career in question. He urged the selectors to consider how Rayudu had performed well for the whole year in domestic cricket and deciding his career on the basis of half-an-hour test would be unfair.

On the other hand, Suresh Raina has been picked up in place of Ambati Rayudu for the ODI series for the England tour. Raina played his last ODI in October 2015 and will make a comeback to the 50-over game.
