On Monday, young batsman Siddhesh Lad was named the captain of the Mumbai Ranji team for their upcoming match against Maharashtra in Pune on December 6.

Lad's promotion came after experienced pacer Dhawal Kulkarni was not available for selection due to injury. The 15-member squad headed by Lad was announced on Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) website by CEO C S Naik.

Earlier, Mumbai suffered an embarrassing nine-wicket loss against Gujarat at Wankhede Stadium. Therefore, the team will now look forward to registering their first victory as they have drawn two games and lost one (against Gujarat).

Despite a failed attempt in the last game, Armaan Jaffer has been included in the squad by the MCA selection panel which displays that they still have faith in the youngster and it would now be his responsibility to shoulder the faith. On the other hand, Lad stated that he was honoured to captain Mumbai and expressed that he will take the opportunity as a challenge.

Squad: Siddesh Lad (Captain), Aditya Tare, Surya Kumar Yadav, Jay Bista, Shivam Dubey, Eknath Kerkar, Armaan Jaffer, Karsh Kothari, Akash Parkar, Shubham Ranjane, Dhurmil Matkar, Bhupen Lalwani, Shivam Malhorta, Royston Dias and Minad Manjrekar.
