India will be touring Zimbabwe for the first time after 2016 for a bilateral series. The three One Day Internationals will be played on August 18, 20 and 22 at Harare and India are most likely to send a second-string squad for this tour. With the regular players rested, here’s a look at the three players who would be hoping to prove a point in this Zimbabwe vs India series and also book a flight for themselves for the T20 World Cup.
3. Deepak Hooda
While Deepak Hooda is known to be a handy middle-order batter, he proved his versatility as an opener in the Ireland series last month, scoring an unbeaten 47 in the first game and a quickfire 104 in the second to finish with 151 runs.
Hooda then made it matter with a 17-ball 33 in the first T20I against England before being benched for the last two matches. The Rohtak cricketer would be hoping to make an impact in the Zimbabwe ODIs.
2. Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as India’s savior in the middle-order in the shortest format. Yadav is known for his fearless batting approach under pressure and this was proven during the third T20I against England last week when India were reduced to 31/3 while chasing 216.
He counter-attacked the English bowlers from thereon scoring a blistering 117 runs off 55 balls as India finished at 198/9. The Mumbai batter would be hoping to replicate such performances in the upcoming series.
1. Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami recently returned to the ODI set-up after a long time in the England series, and he did have a good series. Despite not being among the wickets considerably, Shami was accurate with his length and lines.
He remains one of the vital cogs in the bowling setup and his workload is been managed accordingly. The Zimbabwe series might just provide him the much-needed game time in the limited-overs series with the T20 World Cup 2022 coming up in October.
