Indian skipper Virat Kohli took to social media today, September 16, and announced to step down as a captain of the limited-overs format soon after the T20 World Cup in October, which will be held in Dubai, ends.

Kohli in his letter said, "I have spoken Secretary Jay Shah and President of BCCI Sourav Ganguly along with the selectors about the same. I will continue to serve the Indian Cricket and Indian Team to the best of my ability."

A few days ago, reports were doing rounds that Rohit Sharma would replace the current captain in the Indian side during T20 and ODI's. The changes in the team were going to take place post T20 world cup, which is scheduled to start from October. However, he will continue to captain team India during Test matches.

However, on the same day, September 13, Arun Dhumal, the BCCI treasurer, addressed the reports that are doing rounds about Virat Kohli stepping down as skipper. He has squashed such claims and said that "nothing as such is happening."

He further added that this is what the media is talking about. BCCI has not met or discussed anything about this issue. He had also mentioned that "Virat will remain as the captain (of all formats)."
