On August 22, a fire broke out on the 12th floor of Crystal Tower, where 18 people were injured and four lost their lives. Bhoiwada police arrested builder Abdul Razzak Ismail Supariwala late on Wednesday night. He has been sent to police custody till August 27, 2018, informed N Ambika, Police Commissioner, Zone 4.

After the fire broke out in the morning, in less than half-an-hour, the fire intensified and engulfed 12th and 11th floor. The firefighters were able to douse the fire after struggling for two hours. Meanwhile, they rescued 10-12 residents as well.

Residents claim that a short-circuit was the cause behind the fire. They blamed the builder for not acquiring the OC from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). They also mentioned that the tower that was built five-years ago not only violated safety norms but the builder deliberately switched-off fire-fighting equipment. Meanwhile, while dousing the fire, five firefighters were injured.
