Mumbai police, over the last few days, has been identifying cases where criminals are posing as police officers to lure people, thereby snatching their jewellery and running away. The number of reports related to such incidents has increased over time, and officials have asked people to remain alert regarding the same.

Reports state that these men target women who walk alone on the streets or the ones who are older. They often pretend to be policemen, taking care of their safety. They pass by women and ask them to stay safe by keeping their jewellery hidden from thieves, and amidst the conversation, they manipulate them, snatch the jewellery, purse and such items and run away.

An incident of this kind was reported in Vile Parle, basis which the police have arrested a man who has been accused of trying to sweet talk to an older woman and rob her. 

Lakshmi Manda, a resident of the locality was on her way out of the house this morning when the two men stopped her. They informed her of being from the police department and asked her to remove the jewellery to stay safe in the area. During the conversation, they snatched her mangalsutra and escaped. 

A case was registered and a team of officers led by Assistant Inspector Shivshankar Bhosale. under the guidance of Senior Inspector Alka Mandve of Vile Parle Police Station, began investigating the mater. The accused was found with the help of CCTV cameras and was identified as Jafar Ali Syed. 

They were traced and the search revealed that he was hiding in Kharghar area.

According to the police records, Syed was found, but his accomplice has been absconding. Further investigation revealed that more than 25 cases have been registered against Syed in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad and Gujarat.
