A probe has been initiated against four Andheri RTO officers for issuing permits to 10 school buses without submitting proper documents. The senior officers noticed the nexus while cross-checking the documents last week.

The four people involved in the case started the registration process without the knowledge of the senior officers, at the Andheri RTO. The guilty employees had already issued the registration numbers and permits to these school buses. The motor vehicle tax has also been collected.

Abhay Deshpande, regional transport officer, Andheri RTO stated that the school buses will be issued notices for cancellation of these permits soon. The employees are also asked for an explanation, failing to do which, an investigation will be carried out.

The RTO officers further said that the application to register buses was brought by an agent. As the documents were not complete, the officials refused the same. Instead of obtaining proper documents, the agents took the help of the RTO employees and went ahead with the process.

As per the new school bus policy, the buses used exclusively for students will have to pay only ₹100 per seat as tax, which is less than what other buses have to pay.
