Multiple FIRs against Arnab Goswami for disrupting social harmony, derogatory remarks against Sonia Gandhi

The police in Nagpur and Raipur filed FIRs against Arnab Goswami for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and for inciting communal hatred over the Palghar mob lynching incident.

Multiple FIRs have been filed against Republic TV Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly making defamatory and diminishing remarks against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and for inciting communal hatred over the Palghar mob lynching incident along with spreading misinformation and fake news related to COVID-19 via his TV channel. 

The first FIR against Arnab Goswami was filed in Sadar police station in Nagpur on the complaint of Maharashtra Energy Minister and senior Congress leader Nitin Raut, the HuffPost India reported. Raut filed a complaint against Arnab Goswami for social disharmony and accusing Congress President Sonia Gandhi of arranging the Palghar lynching. 

The Nagpur Police have booked Arnab Goswami under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth and social disharmony), 153 B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 295A, 298, 500 (defamation), 504, 506. 

The second FIR against Arnab Goswami was filed by the Raipur Police in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. In fact, the Raipur Police filed two separate FIRs against the Republic TV head, The Week reported. One of the FIRs relates to inciting communal hatred over the Palghar incident while the other for spreading misinformation related to COVID-19.

On the separate complaints by Chhattisgarh Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo and state Congress President Mohan Markam, the Civil Lines police station registered one FIR against Arnab Goswami under sections 153 A, 295 A and 505 (2) of the IPC. 

Deo and Markam complained that during a debate on Republic TV related to Palghar mob lynching, Arnab Goswami made statements that were intended at disturbing harmony by promoting enmity between different communities in the society. Moreover, Arnab Goswami made allegations of communal nature against Congress President Sonia Gandhi. 

The Police filed another FIR against Arnab Goswami on the basis of a complaint filed by Congress district president Girish Dubey under section 188 of the IPC for allegedly spreading misinformation and fake news related to COVID-19. 

Meanwhile, Arnab Goswami earlier claimed that he was attacked by two goons alleging that the attackers were the members of the Youth Congress. Arnab took to Twitter to share this news and said that the two men constantly followed him and drove parallel to his car, and at one instance they parked their bike in front of his car.

In order to stop the vehicle, post-which one of them reached the window, pointed at Arnab and constantly tried to break open the window by banging on it, Goswami claimed while adding that they threw some form of liquid over the car and then escaped.
