On Wednesday, December 29, two masked men entered the SBI branch in Dahisar West's Gurukul Society and fled with INR 2.5 lakh, reports stated. This happened after one of them fired from a pistol at Sandesh Gomane a 25-year-old contractual employee.

According to reports, they continued to threaten the bank staff and stated that the fired victim would be fine and should be taken to the hospital. The pair then went to a cashier's desk where they found INR 2.5 lakh. While one thief asked the clerk where the lockers were, the other signalled that they had to leave.

Based on accounts, Gomane was from an outsourced agency and worked as a helper at the branch for the last eight months. He lived in Virar with his brother, while his parents stay in Chiplun. On being informed about Gomane's death, his brother rushed to the hospital.

The branch is situated less than a kilometre away from the Dahisar railway station. When the incident transpired, seven to eight employees were on the premises and the Mumbai police have recorded their statements.

Presently, eight teams of the police are on the lookout for the robbers who believe that the thieves could have panicked and shot Gomane. On the other hand, an investigation is also being undertaken by the crime branch. The authorities are of the opinion that the robbers are amateurs and are scanning the surveillance camera footage from the vicinity.
