On Monday, January 24, schools in Mumbai were permitted to reopen after a considerable gap owing to the lockdown induced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Maharashtra government presently has chosen to reopen schools at the district level concerning the administration. 

According to reports, official data from the Education Department of Mumbai highlights that, from the aggregate of 2,97,467 consent forms received from the parents, nearly 1,93,640 students attended physical classes on the first day of school.

This time around, schools in the island city were allowed for pre-primary sections as well. It has been claimed that since all classes from the first to the 12th have reopened, schools had a fair number of students on the first day itself. Nonetheless, in the days ahead they are expecting a better response.

In addition to this, based on accounts, many schools in Mumbai are commencing from Thursday, January 27 or Monday, January 31. These schools are believed to be undertaking preparations that include sanitization, seating arrangements as well as other protective measures.

Moreover, according to Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, there will be a distance of 2 feet between the benches in classes. She added that the school management will decide the number of children in classes on school premises.
