In the past two weeks, the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has reported five new COVID-19 cases. The management has now urged the staff and students to get fully inoculated at the earliest.

In a letter addressed to all the staff and students, they mentioned that in the past two weeks between October 24 and November 6, they reported in total five positive cases. Out of the total cases, three were hostel resident students, which resulted in a few students, who are high-risk contacts, being subjected to quarantine.

According to the Maharashtra government rules, the management has decided to collect vaccination certificates from all staff and students. They will be asking all those unvaccinated to conduct rapid antigen tests at regular intervals as part of the COVID-19 protocols.

Officials said that the institute's coronavirus task force has proposed that those without vaccination certificates should get jabbed. The move to conduct the test and make sure that everyone is jabbed is because the campus is gearing up to start hybrid classes early next year.

IIT-B has not yet shared the official number of how many on the campus are yet to be vaccinated. Colleges have opened across the state on October 20. IIT-B has been shut since the lockdown that began in March 2020.
