More than 10,000 ITI students to get on-job training in Maharashtra

Programs are being implemented to benefit students studying across 126 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 10 districts of the state.

In a recently taken decision, the state government of Maharashtra has decided to provide on-the-job training for more than 10,000 trainees studying across 126 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 10 districts of the state. This training program will be implemented under the German Dual System of Training and to implement the same, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training and Siemens Limited and Tata Community Initiatives Trust in the presence of State Minister for Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Nawab Malik

Minister Nawab Malik informed that this initiative is aimed at providing training as well as employment to the students, and  will be important.

The MoU was signed at a function organized by the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day. Present at the online event were Manisha Verma, Principal Secretary, Skills Development Department, Dipendrasinh Kushwaha, Skills Development Commissioner, Dr. Anil Jadhav, Director of Business Education and Training Digambar Dalvi, Joint Director Yogesh Patil, Manmohan Singh Koranga, Chief Manager of Siemens Ltd., Anis Mohammad, Abhishek Dhotre of Tata Strive along with principals, teachers and staff of ITIs.

This initiative will be implemented for candidates undergoing training across several courses. By linking these ITIs with nearby industries, the government will ensure on-the-job training is be made available to the candidates. As planned, candidates will get one month on-job training after completion of first year training in ITI, two months on-job training after completion of second year training and one year apprenticeship opportunity after the final result of ITI is declared. The program will benefit students wishing to focus on becoming electricians, mechanics, technicians, fitter, turner, machinist, tool and dye makers, etc.

Minister Nawab Malik has appealed to Siemens Limited and Tata Community Initiatives Trust to support the project, and various industries have started taking initiative on their own to develop infrastructure and training in ITIs. Agreements have been made with more than 50 reputed industrial establishments so far.

Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Thyssenkrupp Industries India, a reputed company in the field of construction machinery and elevators. As per the plan, the company will set up a state-of-the-art welding workshop at ITI in Aundh with a fund of INR 1.8 crore from its CSR fund. The Chief Financial Officer of ThyssenKrupp Industries Pulkit Goyal and Sunil Sagane exchanged MoUs with Digambar Dalvi, Director, Business Education and Training.  The welding workshop being set up in collaboration with ThyssenKrupp Industries will provide state-of-the-art training to ITI students in the field, informed Minister Nawab Malik.

Moreover, the state is working towards making sure a large number of employment opportunities are made available in the field of construction and manufacturing. Reports state that there is a huge demand for skilled welders, and the training will benefit the students further.
