ITI admissions begin in Maharashtra; 1.36 lakh seats available in 966 ITIs

The admission process began on July 15, 2021, for 417 government and 549 private industrial training institutes (ITIs) in the state. The process was initiated by Minister of State for Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Nawab Malik.

Admission process for 417 government and 549 private industrial training institutes (ITIs) has begun in Maharashtra. The process was initiated by Minister of State for Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Nawab Malik.

As per reports, a total of 92,000 seats are available in government ITIs this year, along with 44,000 seats in private ITIs. The  process  started today at the office of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day. Present at the ocassion were Manisha Verma, Principal Secretary, Skills Development Department, Dipendrasinh Kushwaha, Skills Development Commissioner, Digambar Dalvi, Director, Vocational Education and Training, Yogesh Patil, Joint Director, ITI principals, teachers and other staff.

As soon as the admission process started, 15 aspiring candidates applied for admission on the official website of the Directorate. A total of 91 business courses are available and candidates can benefit from the same and undergo the skill training program. Reports state that the result of class 10 board examination is expected soon and detailed admission schedule will be published by the Directorate soon after the results are declared. Until then, online admission forms will be made available for candidates so they can apply with the documents needed for the admission confirmation. Moreover, this will also give them sufficient time to fill the admission forms. 

Details about the admission process, rules, procedures, required docs, courses, institution, admission eligibility, etc. are provided on the website. Facilities like registering objections, filling up alternative forms, paying admission application fee online etc. will have to be checked by the applicants too. Meanwhile, the option to fill the admission form on the mobile app "MahaITI App" is also provided.

Sharing more information, Minister Nawab Malik appealed to the aspiring eligible students in the state to apply for admission. Reports state that at least one government ITI has been started in every taluka in the state, and there are a total of 417 government ITIs in 358 talukas. These include 61 institutions for tribals in tribal areas, four higher level institutions for children of Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhists, two independent institutions for minorities and 43 separate units in government ITMs, 15 for women and 28 for tribal ashram schools. On the other hand, there are a total of 549 private ITIs in the state.

Maharashtra also became the first state in the country to process admissions in government ITIs in 2013 and in private ITIs in 2015 through a centralised online system. As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training and the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the information of all the candidates has been made available to the Directorate by the Board. Details about the candidate can be accessed upon entering the the seat number of his class X examination while filling the admission form in ITI, which will show his personal details and marks obtained in class X examination will be automatically  in the admission form as a part of the auto populate option. Furthermore, candidates who have appeared for Class X examination through other boards will also have to mention all their details in the admission form. 

All online payment options have been made  available on the admissions section of the website and payment will have to be made along with the application form. Candidates don't have to go directly to any ITI for examination of certificates, payment of admission application fee and confirmation of admission application. Admission process will be conducted as per the directed admission rules and procedures, by preparing a general merit list on the basis of the marks in the class 10 examinations released by the respective boards. Moreover, rules also state that the admission can be considered without taking common entrance test for ITI admission.

After imparting the basic training required  in the Industrial Training Institute, the apprenticeship scheme was introduced to make them fully proficient in all respects by acquiring knowledge and skills of machinery and techniques used in industrial establishments. Candidates get scholarships during the training period as per the rates sanctioned by the Central Government, under which, a total of one lakh seats for apprentice candidates have been set up across 11,000 industrial establishments in the state. Officials have mentioned that several candidates can apply for the same and make the most of this opportunity.
