The coronavirus pandemic has highly disrupted the lives of students across the country. The academic year of 2020-21 was supposed to begin by June but it has not begun as yet. The situation is no different in Maharashtra and the main reason for the same is the rapidly increasing cases in the state. While it is practically impossible for schools to physically reopen at the moment, the state has launched a solution for remote learning.
On Thursday, the government of Maharashtra announced a partnership with Google to provide online education to all the students across the state. The initiative was launched by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and will give students access to tools such as Google Classroom and G Suite for Education which will be beneficial in distance learning.
The initiative was officially announced through an online event. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Minister of School Education Varsha Gaikwad were also present at the launch. At the virtual event, the CM said, "I am proud that Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to take such a step." The official account of the Chief Minister’s office also took to Twitter to announce the launch of the initiative.

Due to this collaboration, around 2.3 crore students and teachers across the state will be able to enter joint education programs, as per media reports. The project is also said to cover over 1.09 lakh government, private, aided, and unaided schools. The platform will offer teacher training and free resources around distance learning contracts for educators as well.

Google Forms: A simple question and answer tool that allows teachers to fill out or import questions to quickly create quizzes and tests.
Assignments: A tool that allows teachers to quickly and safely prepare, analyze and do grade coursework and provide students with more flexibility in learning.
