After the Maharashtra government decided to cancel the Class 12 board examinations or the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams for the 2020-21 academic year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai (MU) are reportedly busy planning the next few months.

According to reports, even though reopening colleges for the current batches happens to be the priority, several colleges are conflicted as to how to conduct admissions to undergraduate (UG) degree courses across higher educational institutes for the upcoming academic year.

Moreover, with no clarity yet on whether admissions to UG courses will depend on Class 12 internal exam marks or a fresh common entrance test, colleges are trying to fill in the gaps at their own level.

Earlier on June 2, the Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray reportedly decided to cancel the Maharashtra board examinations for Class 12 students. Moreover, the in-principle decision by the Maharashtra cabinet will be placed before the state disaster management authority, also headed by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, for the formal orders. According to reports, the state school education department on Wednesday moved a proposal to the state disaster management authority headed by the Chief Minister to take the final decision.

On the other hand, on May 30, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, while addressing the state informed that a uniform education policy in the country is the need of the hours further stressing the need for revolutionary decisions in the field of education in view of the pandemic.
