Important Update: Uday Samant writes to UGC seeking permission to promote final-year UG and PG students without exams. He said, "final-year university exams in Maharashtra should not be conducted this year."

Mumbai University, in a circular issued on Monday, said that final-year students with ATKTs (allowed to keep terms) in subjects from previous semesters can clear these in July. The circular further added that students who have cleared the final semester of the final-year but have ATKT in previous semesters can also appear for the remaining papers in July.

The university will release a detailed schedule of these examinations, including the final semester after June 20. Alongside, the circular also said that for students whose session for the final semester has remained pending, the exams will be based on the syllabus taught up to March 13.

The students from the lower classes will be promoted on the basis of performance in the previous semesters and current internal exams whereas those who are yet to give their internal exams, their grading will be based on their scores in previous semesters only.

Meanwhile, the students that fail after the gradation will have to appear for the subject they failed in, within 120 days from the beginning of the next academic year. However, the students are surprised at the policy and pointed out that it is flawed and vague. The main concern for them is that they have no idea whether they will have to re-appear for the entire semester or just one subject in case they fail gradation.

The university has said that they will soon issue a circular explaining how the process will work and details on gradation will also be released.

A Mumbai University official said that the university will also issue the revised dates to fill up exam forms and also clarify the rules for distance education students in a separate circular. As per the Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University, Suhas Pednekar, the circular was issued after consulting all the affiliated colleges.
