The Mumbai University has directed colleges to give grace marks to students in the final-year examinations wherever required and in consultation with the colleges in the cluster.

Several principals from colleges across the city have agreed that this comes as good news as students are appearing for the examinations where the format is such in a first. Moreover, due to the nature of the examinations i.e. online, it could be subjected to technical errors or glitches. In addition to that, the questions are multiple-choice questions and not subjective. Therefore, it is only fair to consider the question of grace marks given the circumstances.

As per the UGC guidelines, the state government has decided to conduct the examination in the first week of October and the results are touted to come out in the last week of October. However, most of the universities are focusing on taking the examinations online.

Moreover, it has been difficult for the teachers to formulate a bank of 250 questions as several subjects across streams do not particularly lend themselves to this pattern. However, colleges have been asked to prepare sample MCQs and provide these to the students in a bid to develop an understanding about the exam pattern amidst the examinations.
